Self Esteem Week

Why do people say mean things?
Why do we sometimes take it so personally?

I had a mean comment directed to me today.

 I felt hurt

I felt taken back

I felt angry

I felt an urgent feeling to jump right back and defend myself

I all the sudden felt worthless

I felt like I wanted to hide or run away or start a new life!!!

Then I though WHY???

Why should I let a comment take over my life or even my thoughts for that moment?

My mom would always tell me

"if someone says something mean or

 makes fun of you, they are just having

a bad day and trying to build themselves

up by putting you down, they are

just jealous of you."

I love that!!!

 I started thinking about one of my favorite books

 "The inside outside beauty book"

and I remember when Barbara Barrington Jones

states that if you let things bother you too easily

you need to work more on building your

self esteem.

So I paused I thought to myself

her comment wasn't true

I just felt like I HAD to believe it

because I didn't trust my own opions

and I was feeling self doubt at

that moment.

One more thought:

Just maybe the person who said the

mean comment needs more love

than I need right now.

Maybe they suffer from self esteem issues too or

they would not have felt the need to put me down

and they could focus on just celebrating the strengths

and not weaknesses of their surroundings.

Wouldn't it be great if for the next 10 Days we could

work on improving our self esteem??

Self Esteem is so important because...

So here is to the first day of improving self esteem

CHALLENGE: Compliment other people

Try to compliment as many people you see today but your goal is at least 5!

It will make you feel happier like you made a difference

and also their smile just may rub off on you!

HOW: Compliment the way they do their job, their clothes, thier smile, their personality, or even how good of a mom they are!

You never know how much of an impact you may have on someone!
